Wedding Dance – how and when? – Wedding Stories

Wedding Dance

Wedding Dance 1 - Wedding Stories

Even though the wedding dance is supposed to be one of the most romantic moments of the wedding celebration, it could also cause uncomfortable, ‘where is that hole in the ground when you need it’ situations. I guess it’s needless to say that I am referring to the famous wedding dance *dun-dun-dunnn*.

Right, ok. So let’s just say that in an ideal situation, both bride and groom are pretty decent dancers, know how to work the rhythm, swiftly take the floor for a sway in the spotlight and then signal their wedding guests to hop onto the dance floor. However, usually a number of questions will come to mind when the wedding dance subject arises. What if you or your groom (or neither of you) knows how to dance? How to pick the first wedding dance song? What is the right time to take the spotlight during the wedding celebration? No time to panic – yet. This post will answer some of the questions above to avoid embarrassing moments.

First things first. A wedding dance is not obligatory (do I hear a sigh of relieve?). If you feel that for whatever reason the wedding dance is something you do not wish to include in your wedding celebration then no worries. Just instruct your bandleader or DJ to kick off with some upbeat music and inform your wedding guests that it’s time to lift their feet. If you do wish to perform a wedding dance, but you’re a bit insecure about your dancing skills then take some lessons after you decided on the style of the wedding dance. Whether it’s classic ballroom, hip hop or a dirty-dancing style, make sure you take some proper dancing classes to pump up your courage.

A good timing for the start of the dance would be after the wedding dinner to instigate the beginning of the party. Another option could be right after the wedding ceremony and at the beginning of the reception to introduce you as the newlyweds with a ‘grand entrance wedding dance’.

Now regarding the music, even though it’s a romantic moment, that doesn’t mean the song has to be a cheesy love song or classical waltz. It can be any song that has meaning to you and your groom. There are absolutely no limitations when it comes to the wedding dance song. This moment is a special part of the wedding celebration, but most importantly it has to feel special to you.

Side note: a new wedding dance trend that lately seems to gain popularity is the wedding ‘flash mob’. All your guests will study a (simple) choreography to be able to flawlessly execute their moves on your wedding day. This way you can include all your guests and instead of just the two of you stealing the show, everyone will have their spotlight moment during your wedding celebration and you get to share your first dance with all your loved ones.

Just have fun with it! This wedding couple killed it :)……..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nygwian-E4
