Bridal Makeup: “7 Basic Tips” – Wedding Stories
Bridal Makeup
So once you have sorted your wedding dress, your shoes and wedding hairstyle, it’s time to think wedding beauty, AKA your bridal makeup! When it comes to make-up, there are rules to keep in mind. The shape of the face, skin tone, eyebrows, lip lines. Now, bridal makeup definitely takes this to the next level. Skin wise, the key factor is to look like a natural beauty. Basically the rule of ‘less is more’ applies, except that you will wear a lot more and look less. If that makes sense at all.
But then of course there are trends and seasons and tons of different wedding themes and different kinds of brides with different personalities.
Anyhow, as long as you say ‘I Do’ to these basic bridal makeup tips, you can’t go wrong. Promise !
- Research, research, research. Flip through magazines, look online, browse Pinterest boards, Instagram accounts, you name it. Try to identify which kind of bride you are and what would suit you best.
- Go Pro. Please don’t hold back on long-lasting products and highly recommended: Hire someone to do the bridal makeup for you. Imagine: your shaking hand, liquid eye-liner and a crisp white wedding dress. Gosh, the horror!
- It’s really all about the skin. It needs to look even and smooth, with color on the cheeks to give them a nice glow and to compensate for the whiteness of the dress. Assuming you don’t want to look like Mrs. Casper the Friendly Ghost that is.
- Appreciating the fact that the night before the big day you might not get quite enough shut eye, emphasize the eyes by brightening dark circles under them with corrector and concealer.
- If you would like to up your lashes a notch, use individual eyelashes instead or go for extensions. They will create a full and natural look and make your eyes stand out (which also comes in handy in regards to tip no 4). Important! If you decide to go with eyelash extensions make sure to have a trail a few weeks before.
- Softly groomed eyebrows are in general the way to go. An angry looking bride might send mixed messages to the groom and well, won’t look good in the wedding pictures.
- And finally, to avoid stressed out situations: Make sure you have your bridal makeup trial at least three weeks before your wedding. If you plan on using fake tan for the wedding day (remember, Mrs. Casper, always avoid!), have a test run before your make-up trial to see what color your skin becomes with the tan.
